“Open Heart” — Introspection Through Texture
When planning a new artwork, Katarzyna seeks to captivate viewers visually and mentally — to intrigue, move, and invite interpretation. Her recent project, Open Heart, explores the symbolic and emotional significance of the heart as a center of memory, perception, and connection.
The project reflects on openness — listening to others, embracing empathy, and recognizing how deeply interconnected we are. It also represents a personal journey of introspection. Through her art, she metaphorically “opens” her heart, revisiting memories of love, awe, disappointment, and vulnerability.
Her compositions are layered with symbolic elements — abstract codes that allow viewers to find their own meanings. Ambiguity is intentional: colors, textures, and forms speak differently to every individual.
Technique & Process
Texture has become the defining element of Katarzyna’s practice. She juxtaposes richly structured paper surfaces — sometimes enhanced with sand or crackling acrylic medium — with spatial illusions created through acrylic paint.
Inspired by nature’s interplay of order and chaos, growth and decay, she manipulates paper through tearing, crinkling, and layering. Once the textured surface is complete, she “bends” space with paint, creating depth and optical movement.
